HOW THE LEOPARD GOT HIS SPOTS

The story was set in a place called High Veltd, a place I am not familiar with. (lol) A leopard and an Ethiopian seemed to dominate the place because of their extraordinary skill in hunting. These two used to hunt together using the leopard’s sharp teeth and claws and the Ethiopian’s bow and arrows mainly. With them are the zebra, the giraffe, the eland, the kodoo and other animals, all seemed to be fair skinned. It just happened that the leopard's skin color blends best to the yellowish-greyish-brownish color of the environment. For that reason, it gives the leopard the advantage to trap and outwit the other animals in hunting them as his food.



The reign of the leopard and the Ethiopian continued for years. To spare their lives from the two hunters, the zebra, the giraffe and the other animals find their way and left High Veltd. They headed to a forest full of trees and bushes and stripy, speckly, patchy-blotchy shadows. After a long while of hiding and living in the gloomy forest, the zebra grew stripy marks on its skin and blotches for the giraffe, on the other hand. Having a life outside High Veltd, the animals lived peacefully.



Without the zebra, giraffe and other animals on sight, the leopard and the Ethiopian hunter were awed realizing that they were running out of food. They met a baboon named Baviaan who was tagged as the wisest animal living in South Africa. Upon knowing their problem, Baviaan advised the two that it is time to change and that they should change as soon as they can. With puzzled minds, the leopard and the Ethiopian continued to search where the other animals were.



Days passed and finally, the Leopard and the Ethiopian reached the tall, dark, very shadowy forest where the giraffe, the zebra and the others concealed their selves. Curiosity started to settle when they heard and smelled the zebra and giraffe but never saw them. They hunted all day but there were no chances of catching a single soul. The night arrived and luckily they captured two living unseen creatures that smelled, sounded and kicked like the giraffe and the zebra. They decided to sit on their heads and wait till morning. To their surprise, they’ve come to know that they caught zebra and giraffe which were different from the zebra and giraffe they used to know because of the color changes made. They asked the two animals how they did it, zebra and giraffe excitedly stood up to show them how. They moved away to hid in a stripy bush and a shadowy blotchy huge tree and the two were gone once more. It was then that they’ve learned they were fooled by the zebra and the giraffe.



The Ethiopian hunter remembered and realized the advice of Baviaan to change. He then changed his skin color to blackish-brownish colour, with a little purple in it, and touches of slaty-blue. The leopard followed Baviaan’s advice too, and that is to go in spots. The spots of the leopard came from the finger marks of the Ethiopian after pressing them against the leopard’s skin. As a product, there were several groups of five small black spots closely seen together on the leopard. They have embraced the idea that it would be easier to trap and catch foods again having those skins matched to their new environment and after that, their lives went on. . .
