Benj, I just would like to correct you here since I have been reading many times about our misconception about the Tagalog language.

TAGALOG IS NOT BASED ON MALAY LANGUAGE BUT IT BRANCHED OUT FROM THE AUSTRONESIAN LANGUAGE.

When we say Malay language, these are the languages of the Malay Race in the Malay Peninsula (Southern Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, East Timor, Brunei and the Philippines) Thailand language is more of an Indian language.

So Tagalog is not based on the Malay language but it is a Malay language ( I hope you got the difference).

Malay language belongs to the family of Austronesian which originated in Formosa which is Taiwan nowadays.

The languages spoken in Madagascar, New Zealand, Guam, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Kiribati, Hawaii, Vanuatu and almost all countries in the Southeast Asia and Oceana are from the same family of Austronesian.

Based on my understanding, correct me if I am wrong, we have this notion that when we say Malay language, we are referring only to Bahasa Malaysia and Bahasa Indonesia. That is wrong, since Tagalog is also a Malay language.
