The Masters Cup draw has been made in Shanghai! Number three in the
world, Novak Djokovic heads the Gold Group. He’s been drawn in the same
group with Russian Nikolay Davydenko, Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and
Argentine Juan Martin Del Potro.
Roger Federer is in the Red Group with Andy Murray, Andy Roddick and
Gilles Simon, the first alternate, who replaced world number one Rafael
Nadal. The Spaniard withdrew due to his right knee injury.
After playing everyone else in their group once, the best two players
from each group advance to the semifinals of the tournament.
GOLD GROUP:
Novak Djokovic (2)
Nikolay Davydenko (4)
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (6)
Juan Martin Del Potro (7)
RED GROUP:
Roger Federer (1)
Andy Murray (3)
Andy Roddick (5)
Gilles Simon (8)
With each Round Robin match win, players get 100 ATP points, semifinal
win brings them 200 points, and the final win – 250 points.
Djokovic has no points to defend from last year, when he lost to Nadal, Ferrer and Gasquet.
The Masters Cup tournament in Shanghai (hard, 4.450.000$) begins on Sunday, 9th November 2008.
Good luck Nole!

Re: Tennis : Novak Djokovic
First win for Novak in Shanghai!
Number three in the world Novak Djokovic earned his first points at
this year’s Masters Cup in Shanghai with a fantastic straight sets win
over Argentine Juan Martin Del Potro, 7:5, 6:3 in 1 hour and 56 minutes.
"Last year I didn't have a lot of success. I lost every single match I played, but this time is different," Novak said.
Nole made a break in the fourth game of the first set and then held for
4:1 lead. There were break chances on both sides in the sixth and
seventh game, but not converted. Djokovic was under pressure serving
for the set at 5:3. He made his second double fault to give his
opponent chance for break, which the young Argentine used and then held
to equalise to 5:5. But he couldn’t hold the pressure serving at 6:5 to
go to tb. Novak broke him for the second time to take the set 7:5 in 1
hour and 5 minutes.
Djokovic began the second set as he did the first, with a steady hold.
He got broken in the third game, but managed to break back immediately
to level the score. Nole had three break points in the sixth game, but
Del Potro held for 3:3. The Serb again earned himself three break
points in the eighth game, and this time used the second with a
stunning double-handed backhand for 5:3 lead. He was confident this
time serving for the match, and won the set 6:3.
Novak won 75 out of 138 points, hit 8 aces, had 4 double faults, 27 winners and 34 unforced errors.
This was Djokovic’s first career win in Shanghai. Last year he lost to
Nadal, Ferrer and Gasquet. He was hoping for a better outcome this
year, and so far he’s on track.
The second match of the day is between Nikolay Davydenko (RUS) and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (FRA).
Nole will play his next match on Tuesday.

Nole beats Davydenko to top the Gold Group!
The Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic defeated no.4 seed Russian

Novak: "Great achievement for me!"
Novak Djokovic became the first player to reach the Tennis Masters Cup
Shanghai semifinals after securing his second win in the Gold Group
with a 7:6 (7:3), 0:6, 7:5 win over No. 5-ranked Russian Nikolay
Davydenko at the Qi Zhong Stadium on Tuesday.
"It's a great achievement for me, going through the semifinals, which
kind of gives me a relief of the upcoming match," said Novak. "But as I
said on the court, every match is important, so I will try to win
against Tsonga."
Novak, who improved to 62:16 on the season, struck six aces and won 66
per cent of service points. He saved two of four break points.
"Last year wasn't that much fun for me [0-3 in 2007]," said Djokovic.
"But I gained from that experience. It's different this year, because
I'm coming here as a Grand Slam winner and [as a] more mature player,
stronger mentally and physically on the court. When you have more
confidence and believe more in yourself, and of course, you're
physically well rested and fit for challenges, then things are going
more smoothly."

Re: Tennis : Novak Djokovic
Djokovic falls to Tsonga in Shanghai; Still tops the Gold group!
The Australian Open finalists met in the match that wasn’t deciding
anything. However the better got 100 ATP points and 100.000$, and it
was Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, beating Novak Djokovic in three sets 6:1, 5:7,
1:6 in 1 hour and 38 minutes.
The match started well, with a confident service hold for Djokovic in
the opening game. Novak made an early break, and then faced a break
point, but managed to save it with a powerful backhand down the line.
Number three in the world made one more break in the sixth game and
then closed the set 6:1.
It looked like this was going to be another great win for Nole, but the
second set was much closer, and Tsonga wanted to gain at least
something from his first Masters Cup appearance. He was much more
aggressive and determined. Although Djokovic had two chances for break
in the fifth game, both players held their services until the 12th
game, when Novak was serving to stay in the set at 5:6. The Frenchman
made the first break in the match and took the set 5:7.
Tsonga showed a greater desire in the third set and cruised to victory, breaking Djokovic’s service twice for 6:1.
Their H2H is now 3-1 for Tsonga.
Novak secured his place in the semifinals with the wins over Nikolay
Davydenko and Juan Martin del Potro earlier this week. The winner of
their match today will be the second semifinalist from the Gold Group.
Djokovic’s opponent on Saturday will be the player who takes the second
place in the Red Group and that will be known on Friday.

Re: Tennis : Novak Djokovic
Nole battles past Simon to reach the Masters Cup finals!
The best Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic came back from a slow
start and a set down to defeat Gilles Simon 4:6, 6:3, 7:5, in 2 hours
and 52 minutes for his first career Masters Cup final.
Djokovic opened the match with a love service game. Simon put the
pressure, earned himself three break points in the third game, and used
the third to take a lead. He then held with love to increase it to 1:3.
There were many errors from the world number three, hitting shots wide,
long, into the net… The Frenchman had four break/set points in the
ninth game, but Djokovic held for 4:5. Simon was confident serving for
the set and closed it 4:6 in 47 minutes.
Djokovic took the opening game of the second set, but still looked
unsettled. After Simon hit several poor volleys, Novak had two break
points, but Simon saved them both to level the result. Nole held in the
third game with love. It looked like he found his rhythm, he was more
aggressive. He finally managed to break Simon’s service and then
increased his lead with comfortable hold. There were no breaks til the
end of the set, and Djokovic took it 6:3.
Novak failed to convert a break point in the opening game of the third
set, but did it in the third to go ahead. He served his seventh ace to
increase his lead to 3:1. Simon faced four break points in the fifth
game but held for 3:2. Djokovic was serving for the match at 5:4. The
Frenchman played really well and Novak helped him with a double fault
on a break point, to let him equalise to 5:5. The Serb broke back
immediately to go ahead and serve for the match once again. He closed
the match with a drop shot, for 7:5 and a place in the Sunday finals!
Djokovic made 55 unforced errors, 18 more than Simon. He had 39
winners, 15 more than his rival. Nole hit 8 aces and converted 3 out of
14 break points. He won 400 ATP points so far. The title would bring
him 250 more points, and only 10 points would separate him from the
world number two Roger Federer in the final 2008 ATP rankings.
Djokovic’s opponent on Sunday will be the winner of the match between Andy Murray (3) and Nikolay Davydenko (4).

Re: Tennis : Novak Djokovic
Djokovic vs Davydenko for the Masters Cup title!
The finalists of this year's Masters Cup in Shanghai are the Serb Novak Djokovic and the Russian Nikolay Davydenko.
Novak booked his place in the finals beating the Franchman Gilles Simon
in three sets, 4:6, 6:3, 7:5, while Davydenko was more convincing
against the favourite from Scotland, no.3 seed of the tournament Andy
Murray, in straight sets, 7:5, 6:2.
"The final match is always something special", said Djokovic after his
victory over Simon. "Every player has a great motive to play well and
win the title. It's been long since I won my last title in Rome, it
would be ideal for me to end the season winning the Masters Cup trophy."
The second and the fourth seed played a thriller match in the Gold
Group on Tuesday. During 2 hours and 18 minutes the tables turned
several times, 31 games were played, and the final result was 7:6
(7-3), 0:6, 7:5 for the Serbian tennis player. That was the second win
for Novak in the group, which secured him a place in the semifinals of
the last tournament in 2008.
Tomorrow we'll find out if Novak can beat experienced Davydenko for the
second time in six days. The match is scheduled at 9am CET! The Masters
Cup will get a new champion before it moves to London in 2009.
The tournament champion will get 650 ATP points and 1.240.000$, the finalist will leave Shanghai with 450 points and 615.000$.

Re: Tennis : Novak Djokovic
Djokovic wins the Masters Cup!
The Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic defeated Russian Nikolay
Davydenko 6:1, 7:5 in 1 hour and 42 minutes to win the Masters Cup in
Shanghai.
There was only one player on the court in the first set. Djokovic was
aggressive, determined, moving well, hitting superb shots. Davydenko on
the other hand made too many errors and couldn’t follow Novak’s rhythm.
With two breaks of service, Nole soon had a convincing lead, 5:0. After
winning the only game in the set, Davydenko earned himself two break
points, but Djokovic held to take the set 6:1.
The second set was much more exciting, although it didn’t look like
that in the middle of it. Davydenko’s first serve was letting him down.
Nole was playing really well and managed to break again in the third
game to take the lead. He then held with 30 to increase it to 3:1. The
Serb kept the advantage until 5:4. In that ninth game on Davydenko’s
service, Djokovic had two break/match points, but the Russian held to
keep his hopes alive. His chances looked even better after the next
game when Novak was serving for the match. Probably under huge
pressure, Nole was soon 0-30 down. Davydenko earned himself two break
points and took his chance to equalise to 5:5. Djokovic responded
immediately, breaking his opponent’s service for the second time in the
set. He got a second chance to serve out the match. No.2 seed regained
his focus and raised up to 40-0 and three championship points. He used
the first for 7:5 to win his first career Masters Cup trophy.
Nole served 3 aces, struck 23 winners, commited 19 unforced errors and converted 4 out of 11 break points.
Serbia’s world number three started 2008 season with the Australian
Open title and ended it in style with the title in Shanghai, to finish
just 10 points behind Roger Federer.
This win brought him 650 ATP points, 1.240.000$ and a Mercedes.
Djokovic lifted three Masters trophies this year - Indian Wells, Rome
and Shanghai, won 64 out of 81 matches, and earned 5.189.077$.
He begins 2009 season in Brisbane on January 5th , where he will have a
chance to reach no.2 ranking for the first time in his career.
Earlier today Nenad Zimonjic and Daniel Nestor beat Bryan brothers in
the doubles finals in two sets, 7:6, 6:2, to end the year as no.1 team
in 2008. Zimonjic became no.1 doubles player in the world to make this
day perfect for the Serbs.
Congratulations!

Re: Tennis : Novak Djokovic
2008 highlights in Multimedia edition!
Dear visitors,
It's been nine days since Nole won one of the biggest tournaments in
2008 – The Masters Cup in Shanghai. That was the best possible ending
of the 2008 season, in which the Serbian tennis player played 81
matches, had 64 wins and 17 defeats, that brought him closer to no.2
position in the ATP Rankings!
We followed the brightest moments from Sydney to Shanghai, and we made
sure that with multimedia content they stay in your memory as long as
possible.
In section "Photo" we present to you around 450 photographs from the twelve tournaments in 2008.
For the fans of interactive contents, the right place is section
"Video", that contains a bit less than 200 video clips, 68 of which are
from the 2008 season.
We announce that there will be more of these contents on our site, and we promise many surprises in the future.
Stay with us, Nole is about to come back from his vacation, and when he
comes back he'll get in touch with you via Website, printed and TV
media… And after that – start of the preparations for the top of the
world!

Re: Tennis : Novak Djokovic
Novak: Number one spot is reachable!
Nole with his fans in TV Show "Ami G Show"
Novak Djokovic says he believes he could reach no.1 spot in the ATP Rankings next year.
At the press conference in the Old Palace Novak said he musn't get
carried away with such thoughts, and that he should always concentrate
on his training, and think only about one match at a time.
"Being number one in the ATP Rankings is always my goal, and I think
it's reachable. I have enough quality to get there, but I must be
careful not to forget my priorities, in trying to achieve that goal",
said Novak.
"I have to concentrate on all those little things that one needs to do
to reach the goal. I'm a perfectionist and always want to do better. I
have room for improvement, and that's good. I have high ambitions, and
I want to continue with good results and games, especially in major
tournaments", added number three in the world.
Djokovic is only 10 points behind Roger Federer in the ATP Rankings.
World number one Rafael Nadal is almost a thousand and five hundred
points in front, but Djokovic has a convincing lead in front of world
number four Andy Murray.
"In front of me I have two players that are amongst the best in the
history of tennis, and we must not forget Murray and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga
who had injury problems last season."
The Serbian tennis player won his first Grand Slam title this year in
Australia, he was the best at the Masters Series tournaments in Indian
Wells and Rome, and he finished the season with the win at the Masters
Cup in Shanghai.
"The way I started the season, I believe everyone thought I would
finish it as number one in the ATP Rankings, but it didn't happen. The
pressure is stronger now. I have to defend a Grand Slam title for the
first time in Melbourne, and it will be a new experience for me", said
the 21-year-old from Belgrade.
Djokovic wasn't discouraged by failures, at the first place by
elimination in the second round of Wimbledon, and later with not the
best results in the last six months of the season, except the Masters
Cup.
"The early elimination in Wimbledon was hard for me, because that's my
favourite Grand Slam tournament. The period after that was also tough,
but I guess everyone has to go through that to become stronger. The
long preparation period is ahead of me now, and it's crucial for the
start of the new season", said Novak.
The world number three will lead the Davis Cup team of Serbia in March
next year in Madrid, in the first round of the Davis Cup World Group
match against the 2008 champions, Spain.
"I was surprised to see that the Spaniards beat Argentina and won the
Davis Cup, without the injured Nadal. They showed they're the great
team even without the world number one. But we're a young team, with
huge potential, and we will not go there with a white flag. We can
stand against anyone".
